Examination Results
Significant Improvements in All Headline Measures
GCSE Results Day 2025
The Emmbrook School is proud to celebrate the outstanding achievements of our Year 11 students, who have received their GCSE results today. These results mark a significant milestone in our journey of continuous improvement and reflect the hard work, resilience, and ambition of our students and staff.
For the first time in our school’s history, students have achieved an average grade 5 across all subjects—a testament to their dedication and the high-quality teaching they have received. This year’s results show improvement across every headline measure, continuing the upward trajectory we have seen over the past two years.
Performance in core subjects has been exceptional, with English, Maths, and Science all seeing substantial increases in top grades (9–7), strong passes (9–5), and standard passes (9–4). Notably, one in five students secured a grade 7 or higher in both English and Maths, and strong passes in these subjects rose by over 5% compared to last year.
Beyond the core curriculum, students excelled across a wide range of subjects, with particularly impressive outcomes in Computer Science, Classical Civilisation, French, and Music. These results highlight the breadth of talent and enthusiasm across our student body.
Nick McSweeney, Headteacher, commented:
“I am truly delighted that this amazing cohort of young people has performed so well. As I have told these students regularly in assemblies, they are a true credit to The Emmbrook School. They have grown into truly remarkable individuals; kind, hardworking, and committed. It is therefore particularly pleasing to see their hard work pay off. These strong results continue the pattern of significant improvement at The Emmbrook School since our important decision to join The Circle Trust. This includes rising numbers, better outcomes, and happier students. These impressive results, alongside the strong A-levels last week, show that we continue to improve as a school by setting new performance highs year on year. Given the strength of these results, we expect a record number of students to join our Sixth Form in September.”
Dee Taylor, Head of Year 11, added:
“It has been a privilege to support this cohort throughout their journey. Watching them grow, overcome challenges, and now celebrate such well-earned success has been incredibly rewarding. These results reflect not only academic achievement but also the strength of character and community spirit that defines The Emmbrook School. I am confident that whatever path they choose next, they will continue to thrive—and I look forward to hearing about their future successes.”
As we celebrate these achievements, The Emmbrook School remains committed to nurturing ambition, fostering kindness, and empowering every student to reach their full potential.
Results Match Top 10 UK Sixth Form Performance
A-Level Results Day 2025 (14/08/25)
We are delighted to celebrate another year of exceptional A-Level results at The Emmbrook School. Following last year’s record-breaking performance, which placed our Sixth Form 8th nationally in 2024 (of 3,665 state-funded schools and colleges) our students have once again demonstrated remarkable achievement by matching the record outcomes achieved last year.
This year’s results continue to reflect the dedication and hard work of our students, with strong outcomes across the board. This included one in ten grades achieved at A*, around a third at A*-A and well over half of all grades at A*-B. The average grade achieved by all students was a B.
Subjects, including Maths, Further Maths, Art, Criminology, and Psychology, saw particularly impressive results, highlighting the breadth of academic excellence across our Sixth Form. There was also strong performance in the Sciences.
Nick McSweeney, Headteacher, shared:
“We are incredibly proud of our students. Their commitment, resilience, and ambition have once again delivered outstanding results. To maintain such high standards after last year’s historic success is a testament to the strength of our school community. These achievements reflect the tireless efforts of our students, the expertise of our teachers, and the unwavering support of parents and carers.”
David Constable, Head of Sixth Form, commented:
“The class of 2025 has continued the legacy of excellence at Emmbrook. Their results are a reflection of two years of hard work, focus, and determination. It has been a privilege to support them on their journey, and I am confident they will go on to achieve great things in the future.”
Pete Whitehouse, Assistant Headteacher responsible for Post-16, added:
“I’m thrilled to see our students once again achieving such strong results. The consistency in high performance across subjects and grade boundaries shows the depth of talent and effort within this cohort. Congratulations to all of them for their well-earned success.”
Our students are now progressing to a wide range of exciting destinations. Many will be continuing their studies at top universities, including Oxford and Cambridge, while others are embarking on high-quality apprenticeships and vocational pathways. We celebrate every individual achievement and look forward to seeing our students thrive in the next chapter of their lives.
Big Step Forward in GCSE Results
GCSE Results Day 2024
We are incredibly proud of the fantastic results achieved by our Year 11 students today. Their hard work and dedication have shone through as GCSE results are up across the board, with students improving, on average, by half a GCSE grade in every subject compared to last year.
Core subject performance rose dramatically with English, Maths, and Science all seeing large increases in attainment. Compared to the 2023 results, students achieving passes in English and Maths rose 15% for the ‘standard’ pass (4+) and nearly 10% for the ‘strong’ pass (5+), with similar increases in the Science pass rates. Students performed well across the breadth of the curriculum, with particularly high attainment in Business, Computer Science, Geography, Media, Music, Religious Studies and Spanish.
Nick McSweeney, Headteacher, commented “I am thrilled that this wonderful cohort of students has performed so well. It is particularly pleasing to see the hard work of students and staff in core subjects pay off, as these qualifications are so vital for our students’ life chances. Over the past five years we have invested heavily to expand the range of qualifications we offer our students and so the breadth of achievement is also very pleasing. These impressive results, alongside the strong A-levels last week, show that we continue to improve as a school by setting new performance highs year on year.”
Lorna Panesar, Assistant Headteacher responsible for Year 11, added “we are delighted to congratulate our Year 11 students on their exceptional performance in this year’s GCSE exams. Their remarkable results are a testament to their hard work, resilience, and dedication, especially given the challenges of recent years. These achievements not only reflect the individual efforts of our students but also the support of our dedicated staff and the encouragement of their families. We are incredibly proud of all they have accomplished and look forward to welcoming many to our Sixth Form. We are sure that all will continue to thrive in their future endeavours and wish them all the best for the next phase in their lives.”
Bex Cairns, Head of Year 11 shared “it has been an absolute pleasure to be this cohort’s Head of Year throughout their time at The Emmbrook. I am so glad that we got to end on such a high note with these fantastic results – they are so thoroughly deserved. I have so enjoyed looking at the results as a whole as well as all the lovely individual success stories and I cannot wait to see what they achieve going forwards. Wherever their next steps take them, I am certain they will go on to achieve wonderful things, and I cannot wait to hear all about them.”
Year 11 student, Alara Kalecik, who earned 8s and 9s across a range of subjects, said “I’d like to thank all my teachers for their amazing support and my family. I am extremely happy with my results, and I can’t wait to take the next step to A-level.”

Nick McSweeney, Headteacher, shared, “This is a phenomenal set of results for our students. In what has been a brilliant Olympic summer, our students have outperformed our previous best results set in another Olympic year, 2012. This is a very special achievement indeed. A number of students secured A* grades across the board, and we can see significant value-added progress for students across the ability range. We are overjoyed for each and every student celebrating today and incredibly proud of them all. This step forward in results is a testament to the relentless hard work of our students and teachers as we continue on our journey to being an utterly exceptional school.”
David Constable, Head of Sixth Form, commented, “This year group’s results are outstanding and the culmination of hard work and dedication, resulting in a record-breaking set of results for the school. Over the past two years, the class of 2024 has been a delight to work with. They have approached their studies with care, attention, and a determination to succeed, which has been reflected in the excellent grades they have achieved. I could not be prouder of their accomplishments as a year group and their individual successes. We wish them all the best in the future and look forward to hearing about their continued achievements. Congratulations to the whole year group.”

We Celebrate our Students’ Achievements
GCSE Results Day 2023
Strongest Performances in English, Maths and Science
GCSE Results Day 2023
We are incredibly proud of the results achieved by our Year 11 students today. They are the first students to be examined at the pre-pandemic standards and have shown great resilience in the face of challenges and disruption.
Students performed well in English, Maths and Science, with the three core subjects leading the way in exam results, in particular with “standard” (4+) and “strong” (5+) passes.
High performing subjects at grades 7-9 included Art & Design, Biology, Chemistry and Physics, Computer Science, French, Geography, Maths, Media and Creative Media Production.
Nick McSweeney, the Headteacher, commented “this cohort have undoubtedly faced disruption as a result of the global pandemic and having a daughter in Year 11 myself I have seen how this has created added anxiety, particularly with the return to pre-pandemic exam boundaries. We are, therefore, so incredibly proud of the resilience and determination shown by our students, who have worked hard to secure these results. I am pleased that even more students this year will be staying with us in Sixth Form and I wish all of our students success in the next stage of their education.”
Pete Whitehouse, Assistant Headteacher for Outcomes added “we are so very proud of this cohort of individuals. The way they approached their studies and prepared for their public exams demonstrated what a resilient and aspirational group they are. They managed to block out all the external noise around the uncertainty of exam grade changes and overcome the challenges of the disruptions of Covid during their time in the lower school. The outcome is a superb set of results which will allow them access to move on to the next stage of their journeys, for most this will be The Emmbrook Sixth Form, for others college or an apprenticeship. We look forward to working with the majority and wish all the others all the best for the next phase of their lives.”

A Level Results Day 2023
Maths & Sciences Lead the Way
We are delighted to celebrate with our students as they receive their fantastic results today.
Our students have produced strong results in the first year of normality following the pandemic. Despite not having had the opportunity to sit their GCSE exams when they were in Year 11, our students have shown incredible resilience by sitting their A-level exams this summer, with pass rates returned back to pre-pandemic standards.
Over 40% of all students secured A*-B grades, with two-thirds achieving A*-C grades and many receiving A* and A grades across all their subjects. Maths, Computer Science, Chemistry and Physic achieved considerable subject success.
These results mean that our students will now be able to progress to the next stage of their studies. We value the achievements of each and every student and the opportunities that are now before them, from those taking up places on courses at many of the UK’s top universities, including very many at Russell Group universities, to those who are pursuing their career aspirations through high quality apprenticeships.
Mr Constable, our Head of Sixth Form commented “the results this year group have achieved are the culmination of two years of hard work. This year group have experienced a number of challenges, and have had a far from normal educational experience, but they have risen to the challenge to achieve an excellent set of results which shows the quality of student we had in this year group. They have been a delightful group of students to work with, who have contributed to the wider school life and have managed to maintain a positive outlook in spite of the obstacles they have faced. We are all very proud of everything they have achieved, and everything they have done for the school. We wish them all the best and cannot wait to hear about their future success.”
Mr Whitehouse, Assistant Headteacher responsible for Post-16 added “we are incredibly proud of this cohort of individuals on making it through an incredibly tough two years. They were unable to sit GCSEs in 2021 and so this summer’s exams were the first external assessments they took. What they have achieved is highly impressive.
The way the students approached their studies and prepared for their ‘first’ public exams demonstrated what a resilient and aspirational group they are. They managed to block out all the external noise around the uncertainty of exams and overcome the challenges of the disruptions of Covid.
The end outcome is a superb set of results which will allow them access to move on to the next stage of their journeys, whether it be university, apprenticeship or the world of work.”
