KS4 Health and Social Care

The BTEC Tech Award in Health and Social Care aims to students with a broad understanding of the knowledge and skills that underpin the health and social care sector. With its hands-on approach and focus on real-world scenarios, the BTEC Tech Award in Health and Social Care prepares students for further study and careers in a range of professions, including nursing, social work, and healthcare.

Over the duration of the course, students will study three components:

Component 1: Human Lifespan Development

Students explore how people grow and develop at different stages of their lives. This includes understanding the impact of factors such as lifestyle, relationships, and life events on health and well-being. They will study real-life case studies to see how individuals navigate these changes and challenges.

Component 2: Health and Social Care Services and Values

This component focuses on the different health and social care services available. Students learn the core values that professionals use to provide quality care, such as respect, dignity, and confidentiality. Through role play and practical activities, students develop their communication skills and understand the importance of ethical practice.

Component 3: Health and Well-being

This externally assessed unit develops the student’s skills in assessing and improving health and well-being. Students learn how to interpret health data and create realistic action plans to support healthier lifestyles. This component brings together the knowledge from the course and helps students understand how to make a positive impact on others’ lives.

Assessment: a combination of internally assessed coursework for component 1 (30%) and component 2 (30%) and an externally assessed written exam (40%)

How is this qualification graded?

At the end of the course, the marks in each of the three components are compiled to calculate a final grade. There are seven grades available:
