Overview:
Students study human development across the lifespan, the interaction of biological and social factors on health, and how healthcare professionals provide effective care.
They also explore the structure and function of the human body, the impact of common disorders, and the principles that underpin care and support in health and social care services.
The assessments are split 50/50 between exams and coursework. This qualification is ideal for those that may find lots of exams challenging or those that prefer coursework.
Year 1 content:
Unit 1: Human Lifespan and Development (exam). Explore how people grow and develop through different life stages and how life events can affect health and wellbeing.
Unit 3: Principles of Health and Social Care Practice (Coursework). Develop an understanding of the key principles, values, and legislation that underpin high-quality health and social care services
Year 2 content:
Unit 2: Human Biology & Health (exam). Learn about the roles of health and social care professionals, safeguarding, communication, and person-centred care
Unit 5: Promoting Health Education (Coursework). Investigate how health education and promotion can improve health outcomes and encourage positive lifestyle choices.

Students may progress on to Nursing, Midwifery, Counselling and job roles in the NHS, Health Promotion, Teaching and Educational Support work, Social Work, Probation and Police, Youth and Community Work, Nursery Nursing, Child Care Management and Public Health Work.
It can be taken alongside, for example:
- A Levels in Biology and Psychology, which could lead to a BSc (Hons) in Nursing at University
- A Levels in English and History, which could lead to a BA (Hons) in Primary Education at University
